Since 1945 more than 120 wars have been waged across the globe, with 25 million people killed and another 75 million injured.
As a direct result of these conflicts 40 million people have been displaced or are presently living in refugee camps.
The aim of Conflict Zone is to establish a global producing network of artists from conflict areas whose collaboration
will turn destructive tensions into a hybrid force driving the creative process.
Conflict Zone artists and audience members will be given the opportunity to explore and challenge their notions
of the 'Other' through direct interaction and thereby acknowledge the humanity of the perceived enemy.
The benefits of transposing cultural conflicts into an artistic context include enhancing the actual quality of arts,
shedding light on the patterns that connect us all, provoking dialogue and improving the public's sense of community and social justice.
In the words of internationally acclaimed Israeli author and Conflict Zone member Joshua Sobol, the primary artistic
goal is therefore to transform conflict “from a life-taking to a life-giving energy”.
